Blue Border gate restoration

These stunning ornate gates and overthrow were restored by us as for a private customer in Cheshire

Kitchen Garden Gates

The gates have lock rails of rich scrollwork with a symmetrical panel above composed of foliated W’s, coronets and scrollwork. Below the lock rails are closely spaced formed and curved bars with floral and foliated motifs and scrollwork. The triangular overthrow of scrollwork bears a central portcullis medallion and is crowned by the estates sheaf. Narrow ornate wrought iron side screens divide the gates from the piers.

The gates are currently painted in black with gilded highlights. It would be interesting if the estates archive has any information on previous colour schemes especially as these gates used to be known as the ‘blue border’ gates.
