the waldorf hotel balcony restoration

The famous Waldorf Hotel in London commissioned us to remove, restore and reinstate the decorative cast balcony railings on the first and second floors of the hotel.

We were commissioned by Stone Edge Conservation to repair and restore the decorative wrought iron balustrading mounted on two floors across the entire facade of the building. The scope of work Included the replacement of a large proportion of the wrought iron rails. The project also involved reproducing nearly 2000 of the badly corroded, repousse-formed leaves, berries and flowers, plus replacing over 100 of the cast iron mounting-feet.

The Waldorf Hilton, London, opened in 1908 with a vision to follow the American tradition of offering more than just a room, but to be a place for passer-by to stop for dinner, afternoon tea or a drink.

The Waldorf opened with 400 bedrooms, 176 bathrooms and a range of innovative features including three elevators and central heating. every room had electric lights that could be switched off at the bedside and a telephone. Today, the hotel is a symbol of English heritage with magnificent dining venues and stylish rooms and suites, while still maintaining its iconic traditional charm.
