Leather clad handrail

A commission to manufacture 30 metres of balustrade complete with leather clad handrail for a house situated in Hampstead, North London.

To create the sharp lines required in the architect’s design we elected to use Bright Cold Rolled Mild Steel Bar, which due to the method of manufacture is produced with clearly defined edges, this in turn accentuates the definition between the black faces and polished edges. Standard Hot Rolled Mild Steel would not have produced the same quality of finish due to the rounded corners inherent in its manufacture. Although a little more expensive and less forgiving to work with we feel that the resulting effect was well worth the extra expense and effort. The finishing touch was for the handrail to be bound in black leather with polished stainless steel collars.

The balustrade was manufactured under the new EN1090 regulations meaning  all materials and processes undertaken are traceable and all welding has been carried out by our certified welders to an approved standard.
