External Balustrading Examples
These are a few external balustrading examples that we have manufactured and installed
These pictures will hopefully give you some ideas as to styles and applications possible for your external balustrading project
Granary steps, entrance steps, access ramps are a few examples of applications we are familiar with. External balustrades are typically manufactured in mild steel although we do use genuine wrought iron where specified usually for heritage reasons. Bronze is also a good choice particularly for the handrail as its overall look and excellent weathering properties make it ideal for external use. Bronze is either left in its natural finish to gently age over time or alternatively we patinate to a range of light to antique bronze tones. Steel is normally galvanised and painted which allows any colour to be specified.
As can be seen in the example opposite the use of traditionally forged scroll ends for the handrail is often be all that is required to bring the design to life. Cast iron finials and blacksmith forged backstays all offer us the opportunities to enhance the overall design. We appreciate every project is bespoke so please contact us to discuss your requirements in more detail.
An important consideration is for the overall design to blend with the fabric of the building. this can also dictate the method of manufacture, the finish applied and the method of fixing when installing. We are often required to use traditional hot poured lead to secure the balustrading where alternative chemical anchors are not suitable.
