Cast Iron Gates and Railings for Bethesda Chapel

We manufactured and installed these ornate cast iron gates and railings, made using the original castings as patterns along with photographic records where parts of the railings were missing.

Bethesda Methodist Chapel, Stoke-on-Trent, is one of England’s grandest town chapels, impressive for its size, ambitious in its architectural design and in its heyday capable of attracting huge congregations to hear many noted preachers. For a long time during the 19th century, Bethesda was Stoke’s most popular place of worship. But on the 28th December 1985, saw its last service and it fell into decay.

Neglected for over twenty years it deteriorated badly until the 2003 BBC TV programme Restoration. The programme’s attention brought a much-needed focus on attempts to save the building.

The work was financed by English Heritage, Heritage Lottery Fund and Friends of Bethesda.
