Sam Pearce

Sam has now joined our team having previously worked for us on a freelance basis. Since Graduating from Hereford College of Arts with a First Class Honours Degree in Artist Blacksmithing, Sam has been working extensively alongside various blacksmiths and metal workers in order to gain valuable experience which he can now pass on to our team. Sam like the rest of out team is passionate about the art of blacksmithing and has his own vision for his creativity:

” As a blacksmith my creative impulse is to express the plastic capabilities of steel. I am interested in using the inherent qualities of forged steel to solve problems within design. The forging process and knowledge of steel as plastic medium is particularly important to me, as this is what separates my approach to designing metal work. The majority of my work is derived from experimentation, the search for new forms and ways of manipulating hot steel. My aim is to be innovative within forged steel; my design process is a constant conversation between material and the end product.

Architecture and the ironwork that adorns it have previously advanced simultaneously. However, as contemporary architecture continues to develop with the absence of ornament and decoration, past styles of metalwork are no longer relevant. My objective as a forged metal artist is to create architectural scale steel work that is appropriate for the modern age.”

Amongst various awards for his blacksmithing Sam was recently awarded 1st place in the World Forging Championships Stia, Italy and was also awarded the Stanley Allcard Cup by The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths.
